Here is a picture of the Jenn Air under counter wine cellar we got for the kitchen. I was looking for review online and found none so I thought I’d post my own. The asthetics and design are very cool! It contains an interior light that can be lit at all times orjust when the cellar is opened. The lighting is especially attractive at night of course. The interior maple slats are perfect for our kitchen and match the cabinets we installed. It holds up to 46 bottles which is plenty for us and alot for an under cabinet unit in my opinion.
There are a couple draw backs, the main one being the temperature control. Jenn Air promotes this unit featuring a dual temperature zoned environment, but one cannot control both zones. There is only one temperature dial and when you change the temp for the top zone (white wine) it also changes it for the bottom zone (red wine). So…the colder you have your white wine the colder it’ll make your red wine. Optimally they should be set at 45 degress F for white and 60 degrees F for red, so we’ll see where it shakes out. The manual indicates it takes a full 24 hours to adjust to your setting and is now only 7 degrees apart. The other drawback is the bottom rach which doesn’t seem to pull out…I think it’s for storing items for an extended period of time, but I’m not sure.
All in all, I really like the look, but will be disappointed if I can’t maintain optimal temperature in both zones. We’ll see.
well after 3 days of use the temperature zones appear to have leveled out with a 7 degree difference which isnt great in my opinion. i guess well have to find the optimal setting for a compromise on both ends…red being too cold and white being not cold enough.
This is incredible helpful – thanks!
glad you liked it parul – did it help make a decision for you?
How is it working for you now? Any difficulties?
works fine, but still is limited by the temperature controls.
I just got my JennAir wine cooler installed and it doesn’t get the whites any colder than 53 degrees! I have it turned to the coldest setting and the whites are 53 and the reds don’t get any colder than 60 degrees! I could leave the reds in my family room and they’d stay at 60 degrees. I didn’t need to spend all the money on a wine cooler for this kind of cooling.
I have a large (200 bottle) Vinotemp unit in another room and it keeps reds at 55 degrees and whites in a 43 to 45 degree range.
Do the thermostats in the Jenn Air units need replacing? The cooler looks great but the performance doesn’t match the looks.
willie – i have mine turned to the coldest setting for over a year now and its settled in at 57 for reds and 51 for whites. the thermostat doesnt need replacing, it just doesnt have the functionality one would expect. i think its looks over function from jenn-air on this one.
I’m having the same problem with my JennAir wine cooler. It is a beautiful looking unit but there’s only six degrees of separation between the reds (60 degrees) and the whites (54 degrees). For my taste it is about ten degrees too warm. As Arleen said above – I can leave my reds in the closet and keep them at 60 degrees. I don’t need a “cooler” for that temperature. Is there a way to make additional adjustments to the unit or will it be necessary to replace the compressor with a new part?
I have one of these as well and it cooked $2000 worth of wine (I sent a ruined bottle to a lab in Paso Robles for anaylsis). Jenn Air sent an authorized technician out to view it, he told me it was fine after reading the large thermometer I had hanging in it. I foolishly added another 2 cases based on his assessment, and lost that batch in 3 days (@ $650 worth this time). Jenn Air and the authorized service center totally unwilling to help, going to throw the unit out. Would strongly discouage anyone from buying one of these based on my ownership experience.
