Food Inc.

For anyone you hasn’t seen Food Inc. yet – rent it!  It really will change your outlook on food, where it comes from, and what you want to eat!  According to this movie a small few major food processors have pretty much taken over the industry and left nothing in their wake…specifically, the small farmer.  Most all of the beef that we eat is from mass produced cattle that are corn fed and pumped with soo many chemicals it’s amazing!  The chickens and pigs are about the same, but what really got me was the power that these huge corporations like Monsanto have.  And not only the power of production, but the legal influence they have…amazing.  It’s not a babbling documentary from some hippy living on a commune..it’s very educational and in my opinion well informed!

  1. BP, this came up recommended on my netflix que so along with your recommendation i’m going to check it out. however, without knowing i will predict that one of the premises is that “organic” or “range free” is our saving grace. if that’s the case as a precursor i’m not buying this whole organic deal b/c (1) there is no evidence to support that non-organic food is better than organic other it makes some people feel better about themselves to be labeled “organic” versus otherwise and (2) the implementation of organic practices would cause worldwide devastation, including even more serious environmental issues due to amount of resources necessary to produce the same amount of organic food that an acre of non-organic produces and mass starvation – the world’s population cannot be supported by organic practices. we’ll see though…

  2. the movie isnt a promotion for organic or range free type foods, though it certainly does present those as options in the existing food supply chain. if you dont look at them as viable options after the movie i think you decided against the theme of organic foood before even watching it. there are many other points made in the movie besides these and a legal story with mansanto that i think youll like and probably understand better than most of us. as for your points above there can be counter-arguments made, but thats not the point here. watch the movie and let me know what you think!

  3. ya think that the taco hell we had on the way home from the golf course that one night was organic?
